  • ICE: Dismantling Harm and Building Alternatives

    March 12, 2026  7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

    More Info and RSVP:
    https://actionnetwork.org/events/ice-dismantling-harm-and-building-alternatives

    Description:

As ICE enforcement expands and detention systems grow more punitive, many organizers are asking not just how to fix this agency but how to dismantle and replace it with humane, just systems that protect people rather than terrorize them.

This political education session explores short- and long-term solutions to immigration enforcement harm, including abolition, policy changes, community resistance, and strategies that communities and organizers are using to push back against ICE power.

We will examine a recent local success story about how forces in Maine compelled ICE to retreat in the face of community pressure and organized action. We will pair that with a left perspective drawn from a Jacobin article that argues for ending ICE and replacing it with more humane approaches to immigration and cross-border movement.

    The two recommended readings:

    1. Maine Forces ICE to Retreat - an account of collective action stopping an ICE escalation.
    2. How to Abolish ICE -  argument for abolition and alternatives.

Each section will include time for discussion, reflection, and questions.

This event is open to all, and no prior knowledge is required. Reading the articles in advance is encouraged but not required.
